Marco the child genius – on CNN

By: admin
Published: August 11th, 2010

Ten year old Marco Calasan from Skopje, Macedonia has been dubbed the Mozart of Computers by local press after becoming the worlds youngest IT Professional when he passed the Microsoft Certified System Administrator exam.Going On 10, Boy Going For Fifth Microsoft Certification
Say Hello to Marko Calasan. He’s nine years old and lives in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. He’s also Microsoft Certified four times over and working on his fifth certificate. (And he prefers Bing.)

This is the type of story that warms your heart but also makes you feel a little bad about yourself. Why? Because still in his single digits, Marko is more computer literate than many of us will ever be. Here he describes his first memories of using a computer:

But my first memory is from when I was approximately 3 years old when I was making simple actions like personalizing Windows, then installing Windows, making remote desktop connections with workstations and servers on remote locations, and so on.
As someone who still struggles to get remote desktop working, that hurts. But still, good for the little guy, who has earned four certificates—MCP, MCDST, MCSA and MCSE—and is going for his fifth to become a Microsoft Certified Trainer. When asked about his plans for the next ten years, Calasan said he hoped to write Windows 7 instructional books for users of all levels. He also said that Bing is his preferred search engine.

When asked if he preferred Windows or OSX, Calasan held back from indulging his literal inner fanboy, explaining, “For everyone, the choice is different, so for me I use Windows because I am satisfied with its security, stability, scalability, productivity and many other good advantages of the Microsoft Windows operating system.”

That diplomatic reponse to the enduring operating system debate might be an even more impressive display of precociousness than his certificates. [Network World]

According to a report in the Times last week, Microsoft presented Marko with games and DVDs after he’d passed the exams, and although he considered it a nice gesture, he said he wasn’t “really interested in those things.”

Marko, who has a bent for mathematics and physics, was reading and writing by the time he was two years old, and by four he was speaking in English. In a video posted on YouTube (Macedonian), Marko explains that computing is a simple matter of mathematics and following instructions.

This simple understanding has made him into something of a local celebrity who has since been offered his own IT lab by the Macedonian Prime Minister, Nikola Gruevski.

Marko’s parents plan to publish a book for small children about computing based on Marko’s experience and success.

BREAKING NEWS: SWINE FLU BEGINS TO SHUT DOWN SCHOOLS IN AMERICA – 4/30.2009

By: admin
Published: July 26th, 2010

Fort Worth Texas locks down their entire school system as confirmed swine flu cases leap. School dismissal and childcare closures are an important part of a comprehensive, layered mitigation approach aimed at reducing disease transmission and associated morbidity and mortality during the 2009 H1N1 virus outbreak in the US.

Schools plays a critical role in protecting the health of their students, staff, and the community from contagious diseases such as H1N1 influenza. Children are very susceptible to getting this new virus and schools may serve as amplification point for spread of this new virus in a community. The reason for closing schools during this H1N1 outbreak is to try to reduce the spread of the virus. However, little information is available on what the effectiveness of a school closure might be in preventing further community spread of this new virus. In addition, the risk of severe illness from this virus is not yet clear.

CDC recommends that affected communities with laboratory-confirmed cases of influenza A (H1N1) virus infection consider activating school dismissal and childcare closure interventions according to the guidelines below. Affected communities may include a U.S. State or proximate epidemiological region (e.g., a metropolitan area that spans more than one States boundary). These guidelines address a flexible and scalable approach that States and local jurisdictions can use based on the situation in their communities (e.g. number of cases, severity of illness, affected groups).
Recommend Scalable and Incremental School Dismissal and Childcare Facility Closure in Affected Communities:

1. Decisions to dismiss students and close childcare facilities and subsequent implementation of those measures should be made based on the extent and severity of illness;
2. That local authorities decide whether or not to dismiss schools or close childcare facilities; and;
3. That authority for decision-making may reside in multiple sectors of State and local government; these entities must be well coordinated.

Interim Recommendations

* Sick people (students, faculty and staff) should stay home unless they need to seek medical care and stay away from schools regardless of whether schools and childcare facilities are operating normally or have dismissed students or closed, respectively.
* Dismissal of students in a school and closure of childcare facilities should be considered in schools with one or more laboratory-confirmed or non-subtypable influenza A case among students, faculty or staff in order to decrease the spread of illness in the community.
* Dismissal of students from schools and closure of childcare facilities should be considered for a school district or part of a school district (e.g., a feeder school network or a geographic area) if more than 1 school in that district has confirmed or non-subtypable influenza A cases among their students, faculty or staff. This would include preemptive dismissing students from schools in that district, including schools without current laboratory-confirmed cases.
* Neighboring school districts to those that dismiss students should also consider pre-emptively dismissing students from schools without current laboratory-confirmed cases. Issues to consider include geographic proximity and extent of mixing of student populations across district lines.
* If a school dismisses students or a childcare facility closes, school or childcare related gatherings should also be canceled. Parents and students should be encouraged to avoid congregating in large numbers outside of the school setting.

If a school dismisses students or a childcare facility closes, schools and childcare facilities should dismiss students for a minimum of 14 days. Schools, in consultation with local and State public health officials, should evaluate daily the need for possible extension of the dismissal/closure based on local influenza surveillance information, and the occurrence of new infections and severity of illness in the community from this virus. This length of time is recommended because children are likely to be infectious for about 7 10 days after the onset of illness

If students are dismissed from schools, they should be encouraged not to re-congregate outside of school or elsewhere. If childcare facilities close and there is a need for childcare, families could plan to work together with two to three other families to supervise and provide care (using the same caregivers each day) for a small and consistent group of infants and young children while their parents are at work (studies suggest that childcare group size of five or fewer children may be associated with fewer respiratory infections).

BREAKING NEWS!!! – Military Army Unleashed On Tea Party’s !!!

By: admin
Published: June 11th, 2010

http://www.infowars.com/u-s-army-trains-to-take-on-tea-party/

On April 17, the Courier-Journal in Louisville, Kentucky, reported on a military exercise dubbed Mangudai, named after the special forces of Genghis Khans Mongol army who could fight for days without food or sleep. The Kentucky newspaper portrayed the exercise as an effort to train soldiers to battle the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Designed to test the limits of officers physical, mental and emotional endurance, the emerging Army exercise offered a revealing window onto modern combat training in the era of Iraq and Afghanistan, Chris Kenning wrote for the newspaper. Over three days last week, participants had to crawl on their bellies under real machine-gun fire, shimmy commando-style over a single rope high in the air and march for more than 22 miles through forests.

But according to information received by The Patriot Post blog, there is another aspect to the military exercises not reported by local media.

This week, I was contacted by a number of military personnel, enlisted and officer ranks, who expressed concern about a military exercise underway at Ft. Knox, the U.S. Bullion Depository. As with most such exercises, the Ft. Knox alert occurred in stages, as if real time intelligence was being provided at various intervals, writes Mark Alexander.

Alexander cites an intel advisory issued on Friday, April 23, 2010, that identifies terrorist threat adversaries as Local Militia Groups / Anti-Government Protesters / TEA Party (see image below).

In short, the military was training in Kentucky to take on mythical militias — no word if they were of the FBI-created variety — and remarkably the non-violent Tea Party movement.

Anti-Government Health Care Protesters have stated that they would join the TEA Party as a sign of solidarity during a protest at Fort Knox. The Tea Party groups are armed, have combative training and some are former Military Snipers. Some may have explosives training / experience, according to the intel report.

An intel report update, dated Monday, 26 April 2010, noted that a rally at the Militia compound occurred, and Viable threats have been made Many members were extremely agitated at what they referred to as Government intervention and over taxation in their lives. Alcohol use fanned the flames. Many military grade firearms were openly carried. An ad hoc shoot the government agent event was held with prizes (alcohol) given for the best shot placement.

In addition to being drunkards, the report describes the Tea Party as bomb-throwers. Components of bomb making are reported to have been on the site. Some members have criminal records relating to explosive and weapons violations.

In response to the this immediate threat, the military established concentration camps for mass arrests.

QRF, short for the Quick Reaction Force of the 16th Cavalry Regiment and the 194th Armored Brigade were placed on two hour recall. The 26 April order gives specific instructions for the 5-15 CAV (a 16th Cavalry battalion) to have weapons, ammo, vehicles and communications at ready, and it places the other 2,200 members of the units on two-hour recall. In other words, these orders are to gear up for defending Ft. Knox against Tea Party folks and their co-conspirators who oppose nationalization of our health care sector, writes Alexander.

“360 News and Business Bulletin” — Erica Hill

By: admin
Published: April 30th, 2010

ERICA HILL, CNN ANCHOR: Anderson, John Lennon’s killer was denied parole today for a fifth time. Mark David Chapman will serve at least two more years in New York’s Attica correctional facility for murdering the former Beatle in 1980. He is up for parole again in 2010.

More than half of U.S. companies and nearly three-quarters of foreign operations doing business here in the U.S. paid no federal income taxes for at least one year out of eight. That coming to us from a new government study.

And during that same time, we’ve learned the businesses did trillions of dollars in sales. The report says the companies avoided taxes through operating losses, tax credits, and by shifting income to no-tax countries. Words over the credit crisis have stocks tumbling today, the Dow down nearly 140 pounds to settle at 11,642. The NASDAQ basically flat, but it did drop nine while the S&P lost almost 16 points.

A Burger King employee in Ohio caught on tape taking a bath in the restaurant sink.

COOPER: How bizarre.

HILL: So strange. And now this person is going to have to find not only a new tub, Anderson, but a new job. The video ended up online where the county health commissioner ran across it. Two employees involved in the Senate were fired, another quit.

COOPER: What was he thinking?

HILL: The question may be what else was he doing before he got in the tub?

COOPER: Really? I hadn’t even thought about that, actually.

HILL: I don’t know. Maybe — meaning — maybe there was some substance that made him think it was a good idea. That’s all I’m saying. Or maybe not.

COOPER: Let’s move on.

HILL: Hey, how about that “Beat 360″?

Yes. Here’s the winner.

HILL: That’s a clean job.

The daily challenge gives viewers a chance to show up our staffers by coming up with a better caption than the one we could come up with.

I’ll show that picture again. Tonight’s picture, Senator Joe Lieberman, former secretary of homeland security, Tom Ridge, chatting while John McCain was talking at a town hall meeting in York, Pennsylvania.

Our staff winner, Jack, totally inappropriate. His caption, “Is it just me, or do a lot of the babies in this room look like John Edwards?”

(SOUND EFFECT: baby crying)

COOPER: So inappropriate. The sound effect didn’t help.

Our viewer winner is Marvin…

HILL: So inappropriate.

COOPER: … from San Antonio. His caption: “Let’s go out for V.P. steaks after this. Would you like yours mediocre or well done?” (SOUND EFFECT: “Ooooh!”)

COOPER: Marvin, your “Beat 350″ T-shirt is on the way.

HILL: Oh happy day.

COOPER: You can check out all the entries. You won’t want to take a bath after you wear that. You can play along tomorrow by going to AC 360. I don’t know what that means, either.

HILL: Don’t wash the T-shirt off, whatever you do.

COOPER: I don’t know.

HILL: Wear it forever.

COOPER: Yes. All right. We’re almost done, blissfully. At the top of the hour, breaking news, a cease-fire announced in the showdown between Russia and Georgia. We’ll have the latest. And we’ll hear what the presidential candidates are saying about it.

I’ll show that picture again. Tonight’s picture, Senator Joe Lieberman, former secretary of homeland security, Tom Ridge, chatting while John McCain was talking at a town hall meeting in York, Pennsylvania.
